Ok, relax, you have taken the first step! Too many people are
nervous about going to church for the first time, either because of
a bad experience or they don't know what to expect when they arrive.
Here is some basic information that may be helpful to you.
1. The first question everyone has when they get up to go to
church is, "What should I wear?" At GNG the answer is simply,
whatever you want. Our dress is casual, most people wear
jeans. Simply come as you are, be yourself!
2. Once you arrive at Southern State Community College, park
where you like. Enter the building next to the "clock tower."
After you arrive inside you will find an information table and a
hospitality center. If you have any questions or would like to
know more about GNG, the folks at the information table will be more
than happy to assist you. The hospitality center has coffee,
milk, donuts, cookies and sometimes great surprises, all of which
are free. (Nothing is worse than a growling stomach in church,
so take a donut with you into the auditorium if you would like.)
3. It's OK to simply observe how we do things. Come as
you are, sit back and relax.
4. We have Nursery and Pre-School classes that provide a warm,
nurturing and well-supervised programs for your children.
There are classes for children ages 0 - 5th grade. Grades 6
and up attend the main service, however there are programs for them
throughout the week at The LOFT.
5. There will be a Communication Card located in the
packet of information that you will receive as you enter the
auditorium. Now, don't freak out, if you fill out the
communication card, no one will call or visit you unless you request
it. Simply put the communication card in a basket,
which is located at the back of the auditorium.
6. Our worship style would be considered contemporary.
You won't find any song books, rather two projection screens will
display the words to the songs. The lyrics are more important,
than the style. As long as the lyrics speak truth, then you
can expect music styles ranging from Celtic to country, hymns to
rap.
7. Communion is available at GNG each Sunday. It, however,
is not passed around during the service. A communion room is
set-up at the college for those wishing to partake. The room
is available for one half hour before and after our service.
8. There is an Offering basket which is located by the back
doors of the auditorium. An offering
basket is not passed around during the service. We do
not want you to feel obligated to participate in the offering. The offering is for regular attendees who consider GNG their church
home.
9. A teaching outline is provided in the packet of information
that you will receive as you enter the auditorium. This
outline will make it easy to follow along with the lesson. Clipboards and pens are located on a table as you enter, so pick
those up as well.
