Good News Gathering was born in the spring of 1998 when 19 people acted upon a dream of starting a mission oriented church in Highland County, Ohio. Sixty people showed up for the first woship service on April 12, 1998, in the small auditorium of Southern State Community College. Later that year the increasing attendance forced GNG to move into SSCC's large auditorium. The addition of children's and youth programming also required GNG to expand into other classrooms at SSCC as well as a facility in uptown Hillsboro known as "The LOFT" for middle school and Sr. High. In order to provide for future growth, GNG now owns twenty acres of land on the south side of Hillsboro. Today, nearly 300 people make-up the Good News Gathering family.
So what does it mean to be a "mission oriented" church? It means creating an environment that motivates and encourages people to fall deeply in love with Jesus Christ, to become servants of others rather than self-serving, and to share with others the Good News of what Jesus means to them.
Jeff Lyle has been the Teaching Pastor of GNG throughout its history while maintaning his law practice. In 2007, Brad Barber joined the GNG staff as Administrator of Ministry Development.
